Black History Month

February is Black History Month, a month dedicated to remembering important people and events in African American communities around the world.

The Puyallup School District celebrates and embraces Black History Month.  We invite you to attend the upcoming Culture & Arts Festivals at the Karshner Center, 309 4th St. NE, Puyallup, WA 98372, on February 8, 2020, from Noon – 5:00 pm.  Please visit the Karshner Center website for more information.

Celebration Black History Month at Puyallup School District

Puyallup High School: 

Interculture council students have planned several activities at PHS:

  • - Weekly Schoolwide Announcements – planned and delivered by IC students
  • - Black History Resources (student created displays in the Atrium at PHS)
  • - Admin sharing weekly resources for all staff
  • - VNN Viking News Network feature – I am from poem
  • - The Vanguard – Featuring our student diversity club (Interculture Council)
  • - In March, we will have an equity and inclusion activity with our Interculture council students as well as student reps from our clubs.
  • - PowerPoint presentation during lunches

Ridgecrest Elementary

Ridgecrest had the Tacoma Arts Live come to do the “Get on the Bus” Civil Rights Legacy Tour on January 28

Ridgecrest also does morning announcements focusing on Black History. ASB Officers share a historical fact from black history during daily announcements. Teachers focus on lessons in the classroom celebrating Black History.
